Punjab: Moga village sarpanch shot dead in broad daylight
Harvinder Singh Happy, the sarpanch of Patto Heera Singh village in Moga district, was shot dead in broad daylight near a gas station.
Police and local sources said four to five men in a white Fortuner SUV ambushed him and fired multiple rounds.
Locals tried to rush him to the hospital, but he didn't make it.
Police scanning CCTV footage for leads
Police have sealed off the area and are scanning CCTV footage for leads.
Senior police official Ajay Gandhi said there is no sign of gang rivalry. He suspects personal enmity instead.
Happy had 10 to 12 FIRs against him from past disputes with rivals.
Although he was elected independently, he worked with AAP for village funds.
The murder has shaken the community, especially after other recent attacks on sarpanches in Punjab.
An autopsy will confirm more details soon.
