Rail services to northeastern states suspended for 5th day

Train services to Tripura, Mizoram, Manipur, and southern Assam are on pause for the fifth consecutive day as of Friday, June 27, 2025, after heavy rains triggered landslides in the Lumding-Badarpur hill section.
The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) is working round the clock to clear debris and fix the damaged tracks, with all hands and machines on deck.

TL;DR

NFR working to clear debris, fix damaged tracks

NFR teams have already cleared over 14,000 cubic meters of earth—almost three-fourths of what's blocking the tracks—and are also building new drains to help prevent future landslides.
The landslides happened after unstable road repairs by NHAI caused slope failures near New Haflong-Jatinga Lampur.
Passengers are being asked to check official railway updates for news about when trains will be running again.
