Red Fort shut for 3 days after deadly car blast
What's the story
The Red Fort, a major tourist attraction in Delhi, will remain shut for three days following a deadly car explosion. The blast, which happened Monday evening, has left 13 dead and several injured. The explosion took place in a slow-moving Hyundai i20 near Netaji Subhash Marg, close to Red Fort Chowk in Old Delhi. It triggered a fire that damaged multiple vehicles and created panic among pedestrians.
Probe progress
Agencies investigating all angles
The Station House Officer of Kotwali Police Station wrote to the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) requesting the closure of the Red Fort for three days from November 11 to November 13. The letter said that "investigation of the scene of crime is in progress, but yet to be completed." Home Minister Amit Shah said all angles are being investigated by agencies, including the National Security Guard (NSG), the National Investigation Agency (NIA), and forensic teams.
Security measures
Case registered under UAPA
The blast's intensity was so high that it scattered human body parts nearly 100 meters away. The Lal Quilila Metro station has also been shut down, and key roads around the site remain barricaded as forensic teams continue their investigation. A case has been registered under Sections 16 and 18 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), indicating how seriously authorities are treating this explosion.
Ongoing investigation
Car tracked to toll plaza entrances
The car used in the blast was tracked to the toll plaza entrances using multiple cameras. CCTV footage shows a masked person driving the vehicle. The registered owner of the Hyundai i20 claims to have sold it to someone in Haryana. This claim is being verified as part of ongoing investigations into possible connections with recent incidents like a raid by Jammu & Kashmir police that recovered nearly 350kg of explosives from two buildings in Faridabad, Haryana.
