Sabarimala temple gets serious about safety with 450 new CCTV cameras
Sabarimala temple in Kerala is stepping up security this pilgrimage season, rolling out nearly 450 CCTV cameras across the area.
These cameras, set up by police and the Travancore Devaswom Board, are all linked to control rooms for round-the-clock monitoring—helping keep crowds moving smoothly and making it easier to respond quickly if anything goes wrong.
Coverage, crowd control, and extra safety steps
About 90 cameras watch key routes from Chalakayam to Pandithavalam, while another 345 cover main paths and resting spots—making it tougher for any troublemakers to slip through.
There's also a cap of 5,000 spot bookings for darshan each day (but the virtual queue can handle up to 70,000), plus mandatory verification for all temporary workers at Sannidhanam.
All these changes aim to make things safer and more organized for everyone visiting the temple.
