SC defers verdict on probe into vaccine deaths
The Supreme Court has put off its verdict on whether to launch an independent investigation into the deaths of two women, which their families say were linked to the COVID-19 vaccine.
The families are asking for a medical board to look into possible side effects.
For now, the petitioners have been directed to submit their arguments in writing within two weeks.
Petitioners argue India underreports vaccine side effects
The petitioners argue that India's official numbers on vaccine side effects are much lower than those reported abroad, especially for AstraZeneca's Covishield.
They also feel people weren't properly informed before getting vaccinated.
The government stands by its voluntary vaccination policy and says it follows global standards, but the court acknowledged how tricky it is to balance public health with individual rights.
