Supreme Court puts Rahul Gandhi's defamation trial on pause (again)

India

Rahul Gandhi's defamation trial is on hold until December 4, thanks to a fresh Supreme Court extension.
The case started after Gandhi, during his Bharat Jodo Yatra in December 2022, claimed the Chinese Army had "captured 2,000 sq km of Indian territory."
These remarks led complainant Udai Shanker Srivastava to file a complaint, alleging that Gandhi made derogatory remarks against the Indian Army.

What happened in court?

The Supreme Court wasn't impressed with Gandhi's claims—asking him pointedly, "Were you there? Do you have any credible material?" and even remarking, "If you are a true Indian, you won't say such a thing."
Still, the court decided to keep the trial paused for now.
On his side, Gandhi's lawyers argue that proper legal steps weren't followed before charging him.
The next big update is expected after December 4.
