Tamil Nadu braces for heavy rain as northeast monsoon intensifies
India
Heads up, Tamil Nadu—more rain is on the way!
The weather office in Chennai says the Northeast monsoon is picking up steam, with heavy showers expected in Tirunelveli and Ramanathapuram on Tuesday.
Northern districts, including Chennai, should also get ready for wet weather on November 29 and 30.
Why so much rain? Here's what's happening
A low-pressure area near Malaysia could soon turn into a cyclonic storm (possibly named 'Senyaar') and head toward the Bay of Bengal, making things even wetter.
There's also another system near Comorin being watched closely.
With all this action, several districts are now under orange and yellow alerts.
Fun fact: Tamil Nadu has already seen 5% more rain than usual this season—Oothu in Tirunelveli even recorded a whopping 23cm!
