Air India's big upgrade plans for 2026
Air India is gearing up for a major refresh by 2026, with new cabins and aircraft aimed at making your flying experience way better.
After placing a massive aircraft order, the airline is set to roll out upgrades starting next year—especially on long-haul routes.
Expect revamped interiors on 36 wide-body planes and all 26 Boeing 787-8s by mid-2027.
What's changing for flyers?
By the end of 2026, Air India will add six new wide-body jets (like the A350-1000 and Boeing 787-9) plus at least 20 narrow-body planes.
The first upgraded Boeing 787-8s should be back in service in early 2026.
Over half of Air India's wide-body fleet will have modern interiors soon, and already, about 82% of their narrow-body planes are sporting fresh looks.
Air India Express isn't left out
Air India Express is also getting an upgrade—50 Boeing 737-8s are being retrofitted by mid-2026.
The airline has a huge order of 570 aircraft lined up, with most deliveries between 2027 and 2028, promising comfier flights ahead for everyone.
