In Thane, a two-year-old boy named Hamdan Gufran Qureshi survived a 20-foot fall into an open sewer while walking with his mom near Dnyanasadhana College.
The accident happened on Tuesday, but quick-thinking locals rushed to help after hearing his mother's cries.

Neighbors pulled Hamdan out before emergency teams arrived, getting him to the hospital right away.
He was treated first at a government hospital and then moved to a private hospital for extra care.

Safety concerns spark action
The open sewer was caused by an iron pipe blocking the lid, which officials have now fixed.
