UP: Army soldier arrested for murdering girlfriend over marriage pressure

India

In Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, an Army soldier named Deepak was arrested for allegedly murdering his 17-year-old girlfriend.
She had been missing since November 10 and was found dead in an orchard near Lakharawa village.
What started as a kidnapping case turned into a murder investigation after the post-mortem confirmed foul play.

What led to the crime and where things stand

Police say Deepak confessed to killing her because she wanted him to marry her, even though he already had an arranged marriage set for November 30.
The two had connected on Instagram. At the time, she was living with her uncle and studying in Cantt.
Deepak lured her to the orchard on his bike, killed her, and buried the body there.
He was tracked down after police found a book with a name and phone number in a bag at the scene.
He's now facing charges of kidnapping and murder, with the investigation still ongoing.
