West Bengal: Medical student gang-raped near college

A 23-year-old medical student was attacked and allegedly gang-raped near her college in Durgapur, West Bengal on October 10, 2025.
Police have arrested three men accused of following the student and her friend after they went out for food, then assaulting her and stealing her phone and cash.

Victim's father seeks help from Mamata Banerjee

The victim's father has reached out to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, asking to move his daughter back to Odisha for her safety.
He expressed disappointment with the college's lack of security—pointing out that no one was around to help when the attack happened.
The student is now recovering in hospital; National Commission for Women team member Archana Majumdar said she is stable but still in shock.
