    In yet another shocking murder of a journalist, Naveen Gupta, who worked with a national Hindi daily newspaper, has been shot dead by two unidentified bike-borne assailants in Bilhaur town of Uttar Pradesh's Kanpur. The attackers shot at the journalist outside his office in Bilhaur and immediately fled the scene. Naveen succumbed to his wounds while being rushed to a hospital. Read more!

    Senior journalist Gauri Lankesh murdered in similar manner

    The style of Gupta's murder is similar to the killing of renowned Kannada journalist and activist, Gauri Lankesh, who was shot dead by unidentified men on a motorbike outside her Bengaluru residence on 5 Sep'17. Her murder sparked massive protests across India.

    Second journalist murdered in November

    Gupta is the second journalist to be killed in this month. Bengali daily Syandan Patrika's Sudip Datta Bhaumick was shot dead on 22 November in Tripura. A Tripura State Rifles constable and a paramilitary officer were arrested in the case. On 20 September, Tripura journalist Santanu Bhowmick of 'Din Raat' channel was killed in Mandai while covering protests by Indigenous Peoples Front of Tripura.
