    BMC polls: Many celebs, citizens go missing from voters' list

    What's the story

    Many celebrities, including Varun Dhawan, Sanjeev Kapoor, and Paresh Rawal, went missing from the voters' list in the BMC elections.

    Though many eventually voted, Dhawan, who had flown in from Jaipur just to vote, failed to do so.

    Meanwhile, many residents of Chaitra Society, Amrut Tara Society, Maharashtra Nagar and Chembur couldn't find their names either.

    Stents

    Mumbai stent distributors threaten to shut shop after price cut

    Stent distributors in Mumbai have threatened to shut shop after a steep cut in stent prices, which is reportedly causing heavy-losses.

    Swastik Surgicals in Mulund reported they are being forced to sell stents which they bought earlier at Rs 60,000 -70,000, at a nominal price of Rs 29,600.

    There are also reports of distributors creating artificial shortage. However, stents have shelf-life of a year.

    Shobhaa De

    Mumbai Police slam Shobhaa De over "misplaced" joke

    Alongside the image of an obese policemen, author Shobhaa De tweeted, "Heavy police bandobast in Mumbai today!"

    But Mumbai Police, in their characteristic social media wit, responded, "We love puns too Ms De but this one is totally misplaced. Uniform/official not ours. We expect better from responsible citizens like you."

    De later tweeted, "No offence." But the author faced flak from Twitterati over 'bodyshaming'.

    Kurla

    Youth stole chain from sacred statue to pay father's bail

    Two youths, residents of Makadwala compound, have been detained for allegedly vandalizing a Mother Mary statue near Christian Gaon in Kurla.

    One of them claimed he was told that the chain on the statue was of gold, and he needed money to pay bail for his father.

    They have been booked for theft and trying to hurt religious sentiments.

    Wakan Naka

    1.5 tonnes of suspected beef worth Rs. 1.05L seized

    Police seized 1.5 tonnes of suspected beef, estimated to cost Rs 1.05 lakh, from a jeep at Wakan Naka and arrested three men.

    Police had received a tip-off about the vehicle illegally carrying the cattle meat to Mumbai.

    The men have been booked under the relevant sections of the IPC, the Maharashtra Animal Preservation (Amendment) Act, 1976, and the Motor Vehicles Act.

    Nagpur

    Rs. 35 crore undisclosed income seized from Nagpur, Akola doctors

    The income tax department unearthed cumulative unreported income of over Rs. 35 crore from three Nagpur doctors and one Akola doctor, found during raids at two hospital premises.

    Rs. 1.5 crore was recovered in cash.

    Any undeclared wealth other than in cash or deposits are taxed at least 60%, which can go up to 137%. The normal tax rate is 30%.

    Byculla

    Seven 'RBI officials' arrested for duping bizman of Rs. 1.2cr

    Seven men have been arrested for posing as RBI officials and duping a Byculla businessman of Rs. 1.2 crore in demonetized notes.

    The accused approached Rakesh Jain and offered to help convert his illegal Rs. 5,00 and Rs 1,000 notes to new currency for a commission.

    Five aides, who allegedly fled with the money, are on the run.
