    What's the story

The Vasai Virar Municipal Corporation has failed to provide 2 housing societies in Vasai's Evershine City with a water connection since they were formed in 2007.

Residents have been using mineral water for drinking and cooking purposes.

They allege that the Municipal Corporation refused them water connection due to "water shortage", but have provided connections to other establishments.

Read on for more from Mumbai.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation spent Rs. 23 lakh and 2 years on a study which found localities like Shivaji Nagar, Govandi, Ghatkopar, Bhandup, Powai, Vikhroli, Vidyavihar and Mulund most prone to earthquakes.

The study was conducted by a team from IIT-Bombay and revealed an active fault line in Panvel, 18kms away from Mumbai.

The fault line stretches all the way to Bhiwandi.

MMRDA asked to submit latest Metro-3 plan excluding childrens' park

The Mumbai Metropolitan Regional Development Authority (MMRDA) was directed by the Bombay High Court on Wednesday to handover amended plans and approvals for the Cuffe Parade Metro-3 station, excluding an area designated for a childrens' park.

The HC was hearing petitions complaining that MMRCL had decimated an area designated for a childrens' park despite a rejection from the Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoEF).

    Liquor Ban

Mumbai's highways will be excluded from SC's liquor ban

After Supreme Court announced its ban on liquor shops within 500 metres from state and national highways, Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis wrote to the Public Works Department (PWD), asking them to exclude the Western and the Eastern Express Highways of Mumbai from the same.

Due to this, approximately 340 liquor shops, permit rooms and bars in Mumbai would escape the ban.

    Noise Pollution

82% of noise pollution complaints lack substance: Mumbai Police

According to Mumbai Police, more than 80% of complaints related to noise pollution across Maharashtra since 15th March, 2017 "have no substance."

The HC was hearing a PIL about the ignorance of noise pollution rules during festivals like Ganeshotsav, Navratri etc. and the authorities' negligence towards the same.

Altogether, 185 criminal cases have been registered against noise polluters under the Environment Protection Act, 1986.
