Ali Anwar: News

Hailing from Bihar, Ali Anwar Ansari has played various roles in his life - journalist, social activist, and politician. As a rule of thumb, he made it a mission to stand out in everything he did. On January 16, 1954, Ali Anwar was born in a working-class family in Bihar. This played a major role in his early political career as he was influenced by Communist ideologies. After 20 years with the Communist Party, he was disillusioned by the way the party functioned. He later joined Janata Dal (United) and represented them in the Rajya Sabha from 2006-2017. In 2017, he was expelled from the party after opposing its decision to join hands with BJP. Anwar then joined Loktantrik Janata Dal. Apart from being a seasoned politician, Anwar made a name for himself as a journalist as well. He used journalism as a way to raise his voice against caste oppression amongst Hindus and Muslims. He has worked with Janashakti, Navbharat Times, Jansatta, and Swatantra Bharat. His social activism did not end in journalism as in 1998, he founded Pasmanda Muslim Mahaz, an organization that fought against the oppression faced by Dalit and backward Muslims.
