Nitish Kumar is a political leader and president of the Janata Dal-United (JDU) and six-time Chief Minister of Bihar. Kumar did his BTech in Mechanical Engineering from the National Institute of Technology, Patna. He won in the 1985 Bihar elections from Harnaut, thus gaining entry into the state legislature, and became a Lok Sabha MP from Barh in 1996. In 1999, he founded JDU and aligned with the BJP, putting up an impressive performance in the Lok Sabha elections that year. He also served as a union minister in the Vajpayee Government. Kumar briefly became the Chief Minister of Bihar in 2000. He came to power again in 2005 and served a full term as CM till 2010. He was re-elected in 2010 and served till 2014. In 2015, he became CM for the fourth time in alliance with RJD and INC. However, due to differences with RJD, he broke the alliance and joined the BJP-led NDA, thus being sworn in as CM for the fifth time in 2017. In the 2020 state elections, the BJP-JDU alliance won the majority, with Kumar starting his sixth innings as the Bihar CM.
