Arvind Ganpat Sawant is a Shiv Sena politician and Lok Sabha Member of Parliament (MP) from Mumbai South. After completing his BSc from Bhavan’s College, Mumbai, Sawant worked with the Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL). He quit his job to join active politics in the late 1990s and became a member of the Maharashtra Legislative Council. Sawant served nearly 15 years in the Legislative Council. In 2010, he was appointed as the Shiv Sena spokesperson, tasked with defending the party on television news channels at a time when it faced intense criticism. He won from the Mumbai South constituency in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, defeating Milind Deora of the Indian National Congress (INC). Sawant was re-elected from Mumbai South in the 2019 General Elections and was sworn in as the Minister of Heavy Industries & Public Enterprises (2019) in the Narendra Modi government. However, after Shiv Sena broke off from the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in November 2019, Sawant resigned from the Ministry.
