What's the story

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is leading in two of the eight assembly bypolls held across six states and one union territory. The party is ahead in Odisha's Nuapada and Jammu and Kashmir's Nagrota. Meanwhile, the Indian National Congress is leading in Rajasthan's Anta and Telangana's Jubilee Hills. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is leading in Tarn Taran, Punjab. The AAP fielded Harmeet Singh Sandhu after the death of sitting MLA Kashmir Singh Sohal.

Contest overview

Nuapada and Jubilee Hills

In Odisha's Nuapada, BJP's Jay Dholakia is contesting against BJD's Snehangini Chhuria and Congress's Ghasiram Majhi. The seat fell vacant after the death of senior BJD MLA Rajendra Dholakia in September. In Telangana's Jubilee Hills, Congress's Naveen Yadav is up against BRS's Sunitha and BJP's Lankala Deepak Reddy.

Other constituencies

Mizoram's Dampa, Jharkhand's Ghatshila and Rajasthan's Anta

In Mizoram's Dampa constituency, a four-way contest was held between BJP, Congress, MNF and ZPM. The seat has been won by Dr. R Lalthangliana of the MNF. Jharkhand's Ghatshila sees a high-profile contest between BJP's Babulal Soren and Mahagathbandhan's Somesh Chandra Soren. In Rajasthan's Anta constituency, Congress's Pramod Jain is pitted against BJP's Morpal Suman after the disqualification of Kanwar Lal Meena over a 2005 conviction.
