What's the story

Hurling a challenge towards the Opposition, BJP President Amit Shah on Sunday said even a coalition between SP, BSP and Congress won't yield results in elections, next year. Shah said the tally of seats of BJP will be 74, as opposed to the current 73. He was speaking at renaming function of Mughalsarai to Deen Dayal Upadhyaya junction. Here's more on what he said.

The claims

Our tally won't go from 73 to 72: Shah

Shah said the Opposition was spreading lies that if bua-bhatija (Akhilesh Yadav, Mayawati) came together a lot would change in UP. But nothing will, he said. "Our tally of seats will be 74 instead of 73 now and not 72. I am throwing them the challenge that even today the BJP's saffron flag will flutter here," Shah said.

Accusations

Accusing BSP-SP of ruining UP, Shah said Purvanchal's development mandatory

Shah then added the BSP, SP had a chance to develop UP, but they didn't do anything for 15 years. Speaking about Purvanchal area, under which Mughalsarai comes, Shah said India's road to development goes through here. "I used to say that till UP does not develop, India won't. Now I say till my Purvanchal does not develop, India won't," Shah said.

NRC debate

Why does Rahul Gandhi not answer questions on NRC: Shah

Raising the NRC issue once again, Shah asked why was Congress silent on an exercise that ensured illegal Bangladeshi immigrants won't stay in the country. "I ask Rahul baba, should there be NRC in this country? But he does not reply. You tell me, should these illegal infiltrators be thrown out or not?" Shah said and added he knew people from UP didn't want illegal migrants.

Claims

Further, Adityanath claims UP became better under him

At the function, CM Yogi Adityanath said earlier UP was infamous for riots, nepotism, and casteism. But things changed for the better under his and PM Modi's rule, Adityanath claimed. Railway Minister Piyush Goyal also attended the ceremony. "Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyaya learned different principles in his early life," Goyal said. Shah announced a research institute and statue to honor the RSS dialogue.
