In 2019, Girish Dattatray Mahajan made it to the Maharashtra legislature for the sixth time. He has been representing Jamner Vidhan Sabha Constituency since the 1995 Assembly Election. Born on May 17, 1960, in Jamner, Mahajan was born into a Marathi Gurjar family. He became active in politics during his college days. As a member of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad or ABVP, he connected with the people in Jamner. His rise through the ranks of ABVP from an ordinary member who distributed posters to its President at Taluka level soon made him a name to take notice of. Mahajan saw his political career on the rise in the eighties as well. In 1988, he became the President (Taluka) of the Bharatiya Yuva Morcha. He was appointed as one of the state Vice Presidents of BJP in 1993. He was also the sarpanch of the Jamner Gram Panchayat from 1992-1995. Mahajan was the Cabinet Minister for Irrigation during the Devendra Fadnavis ministry (2014-2019).
