Hema Malini: Rape cases are given more publicity these days
BJP MP Hema Malini commented on the rising rapes and crimes against women on Saturday and said such incidents are getting a lot of publicity, ANI reported. The actress was asked what according to her was the reason behind the surge in women-related crimes. On this, Hema Malini said, "Such cases are being given more publicity these days." Her comments sparked a row.
"Such cases are given more publicity these days. So, it may have been happening earlier too, but wasn't known. The government will come out with a solution. Such incidents should not have happened; it is also showing our country in a bad light," Malini said.
The statement of the BJP lawmaker comes amid huge outrage across the nation over rape cases of Kathua, Unnao, Surat, and Indore. In Kathua, an eight-year-old girl was repeatedly gang-raped before being murdered. Earlier today the Narendra Modi cabinet passed the ordinance to make amendments in the POCSO act to give death penalty to rapists of minors under 12.
After her intelligent reasoning of over population in Mumbai to be main cause of fire at Kamala Mills.. Hema malini feels too much publicity being given to rape cases....Am speechless pic.twitter.com/ExV2kdbD0X— utterlybutterly (@utterlybutterl2) April 21, 2018
