Coronavirus-panic: Infected Kanika Kapoor met Dushyant Singh, he other MPs
Bollywood singer Kanika Kapoor, who tested positive for coronavirus on Friday, has sparked fears of mass infection after she met with almost the entire elite circle of Lucknow, Vasundhara Raje and her son Dushyant Singh. As a precautionary measure, Raje and Singh have gone into self-isolation but the latter met several MPs and even President Ram Nath Kovind in the last couple of days.
Kanika, famous for the song Baby Doll, returned to Mumbai from London on March 9, and two days later went to her home town Lucknow. In the following days, she attended at least three gatherings and came in touch with some 300-odd people, her father Rajiv Kapoor said. She was tested after she developed symptoms. Her family members are also being tested.
According to Indian Express, she apparently attended another meeting in Kanpur, which had some 50-odd people in attendance. But the high-profile party that has put several parliamentarians, their staff, and their family members at risk happened in Lucknow. On March 15, two parties were held — one by former BSP MP Akbar Ahmed Dumpy, and another at the Cantonment area.
The party by Dumpy was attended by Raje, Singh, state Minister of Medical Health & Family Welfare Jai Pratap Singh, and others. For two days after that, Singh attended the Parliament. After the news of him going under self-quarantine surfaced, Trinamool's Derek O'Brien and Apna Dal's Anupriya Patel, who met him, also went into self-isolation. Deepender Hooda too is isolating himself.
Not only this, but Singh also attended a meal hosted by President Kovind, for parliamentarians from Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh and Amethi MP Smriti Irani were seen at the event, and so were Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore, Hema Malini, and Mary Kom. Congress' Kumari Selja also attended it. Singh is also believed to have interacted with several media persons too.
Reportedly, Singh also held a press conference in Gautam Buddh Nagar district. MLAs Dhirendra Singh (Jewar), Pankaj Singh (Noida), Tejinder Nagar (Dadri) attended the meet, and so did the District Magistrate and Chief Medical Officer. The legislators have gone into self-quarantine.
While President Kovind didn't come close to any of the guests, the Rashtrapati Bhavan is being cautious. He has canceled all appointments. Now, Jai Pratap Singh maintained he didn't meet Kanika but his presence at the party rung alarm bells in the Yogi Adiyanath government as well. Jai mingled with Adityanath and his two deputies, Dinesh Sharma and Keshav Prasad Maurya, the next day.
Now, the Health Department is tracing those who directly contacted Kanika. If any of the secondary contacts show any symptoms, they will be screened too. Kanika, who is facing a barrage of criticism, has been booked. Last night, Lucknow police filed an FIR against her under sections that deal with disobedience to orders. An FIR was also lodged at Sarojini Nagar police station.
