'Wash mouth with datun': RLD's Jayant Chaudhary slams Assam CM
Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) chief Jayant Chaudhary on Sunday lashed out at Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma probably in response to his controversial remark about Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. Chaudhary claimed that Sarma used foul language and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders should clean their mouths with "datun," or teeth-cleaning twig, from time to time.
Why does this story matter?
The remark comes after the Assam CM earlier attacked Gandhi by saying the BJP had never sought proof of him being the "son of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi". The Congress leader had demanded proof of India's surgical strike in 2016 and the airstrike in 2019 in Pakistan. On Saturday, Sarma called Rahul Gandhi a "modern day Jinnah".
Look at the mentality of these people: Assam CM
"Look at the mentality of these people. General Bipin Rawat was the pride of the country. India conducted the surgical strike in Pakistan under his leadership. Rahul Gandhi demanded proof of the strike. Did we ever ask you for proof of whether you are Rajiv Gandhi's son or not? What right do you have to demand proof from my Army?" Sarma had said.
Telangana CM questions the "sanskaar"
Opposition leaders reacted sharply to Sarma's remark, including Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, who demanded Sarma's resignation. "PM Modi ji, is this the 'sanskaar' (etiquettes) or our Hindu ritual to question an MP about the identity of his father," said Rao. "My eyes are in tears after I heard this. This is not a good thing for the country," the CM added.

Sarma slammed Rahul over 'tukde tukde philosophy'
On Thursday, after Gandhi highlighted that India is a "union" of cultures and states, Sarma slammed him, saying that "India is far beyond just a union." "We are a proud Nation. Bharat cannot be held hostage to your tukde tukde philosophy. What is your problem with Nation, Nationality and Nationalism.? And hello- beyond Bengal, we North east exist," Sarma had tweeted.
