Priyanka Gandhi will be seen as 'thief's wife': Uma Bharti

In what marks as another low in political discourse, Union Minister Uma Bharti on Tuesday said people of country would see Priyanka Gandhi Vadra as "thief's wife". She said Priyanka won't have any effect in Uttar Pradesh as far as the Lok Sabha polls are concerned. Uma also said that Congress President Rahul Gandhi's candidature from Wayanad and Amethi shows he has accepted defeat.

Whose husband is facing theft charges, asked Uma

When Uma was asked to comment on Priyanka's possible candidature from Varanasi, she said, "It's a democracy, anybody can fight election from anywhere". The firebrand leader asserted Priyanka's post as in-charge of Congress for UP East won't affect the results. "Why will she have an impact... Whose husband is facing theft charges. She will be seen the way India sees a thief's wife," Uma added.

Notably, BJP has used Robert Vadra's cases to slam Gandhis

Priyanka's husband Robert Vadra has been questioned for a string of corruption cases. BJP has used his alleged involvement in scams to take jibes at Gandhi family, which emboldened after Priyanka joined active politics earlier this year. Meanwhile, Vadra has claimed innocence and said cases against him were driven by political vendetta. Once, he flaunted that he didn't flee the country like other 'offenders'.

Meanwhile, Priyanka's actions showed she stood by her family

Unaffected by attacks of BJP, Priyanka sent strong message when she dropped Vadra for questioning at ED office, in February. He was grilled for his alleged involvement in a money laundering case. About her trip to ED office, Priyanka said, "I stand by my family".

Vadra hinted he might join politics in future

Separately, a series of speculations claimed Vadra might follow his wife's footsteps and join Congress. Notably, he said he wasn't averse to the idea and would join a platform to serve people better. On Sunday, Uttar Pradesh Congress Chief Raj Babbar said Vadra was always welcome in the party and no one would 'refuse' him if he makes up his mind.

Meanwhile, Bharti called Yogi Adityanath's punishment 'unjust'

During her media interaction, Bharti also spoke about Azam Khan. The senior SP leader passed derogatory remarks on his Rampur opponent Jaya Prada which prompted EC to bar him from campaigning for 72 hours. Bharti opined he should be barred from contesting polls altogether. But Bharti found Aditayanth's punishment unfair. She said he didn't insult any woman but took God's name.
