Renowned Punjabi and Hindi film actor, Raj Babbar was born and brought up in Uttar Pradesh. After completing his graduation from Agra, he attended the National School of Drama (NSD) due to his interest in acting. Babbar got involved in street theater while attending NSD and then moved to Mumbai to start his film career. 'Kissa Kursi Ka' (1977) and the 1980 films 'Aap To Aise Na The' , 'Jazbaat', and 'Sau Din Saas Ke' are among his earliest Hindi movies. However, he received disrepute in the industry after being portrayed as a rapist in the movie 'Insaaf Ka Taraazu'. Along with Hindi cinema, Babbar also worked in Punjabi cinema, where he managed to gain a huge fan following. His movies 'Chann Pardesi', 'Marhi Da Deeva', and 'Long Da Lishkara' became three of his most important movies in the Punjabi industry. In Bollywood, Babbar became popular as an antagonist in several movies. In 1989, he entered politics by joining Janata Dal. Later, he shifted to Samajwadi Party and became a Member of Parliament thrice. After being suspended from the party, he joined Indian National Congress and became an MP for the fourth time in 2009. However, in 2014 and 2019, he lost the General Elections from Ghaziabad.
