Salman Khurshid: News

Salman Khurshid is a senior advocate, author, and Indian National Congress (INC) politician. He is the grandson of the third President of India, Zakir Hussain. Khurshid did his graduation from St. Stephen’s College, Delhi University, and MA from St. Edmund Hall, Oxford University. After his education, he worked as a lecturer in law at Oxford’s Trinity College. In the early 1980s, Khurshid served as Officer on Special Duty (OSD) in the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi’s office. He successfully contested his first Lok Sabha election in 1991 from the Farrukhabad constituency and became the Union Deputy Minister of Commerce in the PV Narasimha Rao Government. Later, he also served as Union Minister of State (MoS) for External Affairs. In the 1996 Lok Sabha elections, he lost his seat to BJP’s Sakshi Maharaj. Khurshid returned to the Lok Sabha from Farrukhabad in the 2009 General Elections to become a part of the UPA-II Government. He served as the Minister of Minority Affairs (2009-12), Law & Justice (2011-12), and External Affairs (2012-14) in the then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s Cabinet. Khurshid lost from Farrukhabad in the 2014 and 2019 Lok Sabha polls.
