20 app makers call out Apple's "unfair" fees, urge EU to step in
Technology
A group of 20 app developers and consumer groups are asking EU regulators to crack down on Apple's new App Store fees.
They say these policies still put European developers at a disadvantage—even after a US court ruling restricted Apple's ability to impose fees on external transactions.
What's the issue?
After the EU's Digital Markets Act, Apple changed its rules but now charges 13-20% on App Store purchases and adds a 5-15% penalty for payments made outside the App Store.
The Coalition for Apps Fairness (with members like Deezer) says this goes against EU rules and keeps European devs behind their US peers.
They're pushing the EU to act—and warn they might take it all the way to Europe's top court if things don't change.
