AI deepfake doctors are spreading health lies on social media

Technology

Fake doctor videos made with AI are popping up everywhere—TikTok, X, Facebook, and YouTube.
These deepfakes use real doctors' faces—and sometimes their voices—to push sketchy supplements and wellness products, often linking back to a US-based company called Wellness Nest.
Some of these videos have racked up millions of views, making it tough to spot what's real and what's not.

What's actually happening?

Investigations found over 100 fake doctor videos online. Some even use clips of well-known experts like Prof David Taylor-Robinson.
Researchers have also flagged dozens of TikTok and Instagram accounts using AI-generated doctor avatars—sometimes straight from public AI toolkits.

Why it matters for you

These deepfakes aren't just weird—they're risky. They can trick people into ditching real medical advice for unproven treatments, putting health (and wallets) at risk.
It's a reminder: always double-check where your health info is coming from before you trust it or share it around.
