AI's creativity capped at average human level: Study

Technology

Turns out, AI like ChatGPT has a built-in ceiling when it comes to creativity.
A new study led by Professor David Cropley found that these models only reach the creative level of an average person—not a pro.
Using measures like originality and effectiveness, Cropley gave AI a top score of just 0.25 out of 1.

What does that mean for us?

Basically, AI is great for routine creative tasks but can't match skilled humans who come up with truly original ideas.
Since most people fall below the "average" line in creativity, it's easy to be impressed by what AI can do—but experts quickly notice its predictable patterns.
For now, if we want next-level creativity from machines, we'll need totally new tech that goes beyond copying what it's already learned.
