Amazon announces resilient network graphs for AWS data centers
Amazon just announced Resilient Network Graphs (RNG), a fresh way to run its AWS data centers.
RNG could cut power use by 40% and reduce the need for hardware like routers and switches by 69%.
Plus, it's expected to make everything run about one-third faster, thanks to some clever math behind the new cable connections.
RNG uses ShuffleBox and SprayPoint tools
Instead of sticking with old-school "fat tree" setups that eat up energy and slow things down, RNG uses flexible pathways powered by two main tools: ShuffleBox (which shuffles fiber-optic connections on the fly) and SprayPoint (which spreads data across multiple routes).
By keeping more data moving as light instead of electricity, RNG helps lower energy bills and could make a real dent in the environmental impact of massive computing centers.
