Mukesh Ambani, the Chairman and Managing Director of Reliance Industries, has emphasized the need for India to become a creator and global leader in artificial intelligence (AI). He made this statement during the company's 49th Annual General Meeting (AGM). Ambani stressed that AI self-sufficiency should be a national mission for India. "I firmly believe that India should not be a mere consumer of AI created elsewhere," he said.

Reliance Intelligence enters execution phase

Ambani also announced that Reliance Intelligence, the group's latest growth engine, has entered its execution phase. The goal of this initiative is to create a profitable AI infrastructure, platform and services business. "AI to everyone, everywhere," Ambani said while describing the mission of Reliance Intelligence. He added that engineers at this new unit would tackle national-scale problems with the resources and freedom they need.

Plans for India's sovereign AI backbone

Akash Ambani announced plans to build "India's sovereign AI backbone." He said the first 120MW of AI compute infrastructure would be operational by the end of 2026. Reliance is also deploying NVIDIA GB300 infrastructure as part of its AI strategy. Akash also revealed that Reliance is developing AI services in 22 Indian languages and embedding these capabilities directly into its network and customer calls.

Consumer integration

MyJio to become AI-powered personal adviser

Reliance also announced that MyJio will be transformed into an AI-powered personal adviser. The company also unveiled Jio TeleFrame, an AI operating system for homes. These developments highlight three consumer-facing layers of Reliance's AI rollout: within the Jio network, customer calls, and home devices/services. Akash Ambani revealed that Jio's 5G subscriber base has reached 268 million, while JioAirFiber has connected 13 million homes.

Media innovation

JioStar GenAI Media Studio launched

Akash Ambani also announced the launch of JioStar GenAI Media Studio (JAMS), an AI-native content production platform. This was part of Reliance's media and entertainment update. He said JioStar, Jio Studios, and Network18 form India's most powerful media ecosystem. The announcement brings media production into Reliance's AI strategy along with infrastructure, telecom network integration, customer-facing assistants, home AI services, and Indian-language offerings.
