Apple Wallet can now hold your passport
Apple just rolled out Digital ID, letting US passport holders save and show their identity right from Apple Wallet on iPhone or Apple Watch.
Now available, you can use it at TSA checkpoints in over 250 US airports for domestic travel—though a physical passport may still be required in other situations.
How to set up Digital ID
To get started, just scan your passport's photo page and chip, then do a quick facial verification.
Your Digital ID stays encrypted on your device and needs Face ID or Touch ID every time you use it.
Apple says they can't see when or where you use your ID—or what info you share—so your privacy stays intact.
Digital ID is the next step for wallet
Digital ID builds on the Wallet features for driver's licenses and state IDs that launched in 2022 (now in 12 states plus Puerto Rico).
With recent rollouts in places like Montana and Japan, Apple plans to let you use Digital ID to prove who you are—or how old you are—in more apps, businesses, and online platforms soon.
