Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4 raise privacy concerns
Apple just dropped the Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4, loaded with AI tools like "Live Rewind" and "Siri Recap" that can transcribe and summarize your conversations.
While these features sound handy, they're raising big questions about privacy: legal experts in several states are worried they might break eavesdropping laws, even though Apple says the underlying audio is not actually recorded and the data stays on the device.
Siri Recap lacks clear notifications
Apple says it has built-in safeguards: audio stays on your device, Live Rewind only works for 15 seconds, there is an audible alert when a user requests a Live Rewind readout, and a microphone indicator appears when Live Rewind is activated.
But critics point out Siri Recap doesn't have clear notifications, so you might not know when Siri Recap is listening.
Experts are also uneasy about always-on listening tech and whether users really understand or consent to it, something that's becoming a bigger issue as more gadgets get smarter.
