Audible's new standard plan takes aim at Spotify's audiobook crowd
Audible just launched its new "Standard" plan at $8.99/month in the US (£5.99 in the UK), aiming straight at Spotify's audiobook crowd.
It's $6 less than Audible's Premium Plus, and lets you pick one audiobook each month from the full catalog, plus unlimited ad-free listening to curated Audible Originals and Wondery+ podcasts like Dr. Death and Business Wars.
Here's what you get in the Standard plan
The Standard plan is perfect if you just want a book a month—no rollover if you skip, though, unlike Premium Plus where unused credits can roll over (up to 5 credits) and audiobooks purchased with credits are yours to keep even if you cancel, though titles included via the Plus Catalog are not.
This new tier is rolling out in the US, UK, Canada, Australia, Germany, and France.
Spotify saw big jumps in audiobook listening last year
Spotify saw big jumps in audiobook listening after bundling them with music and podcasts—a 36% rise in users listening to audiobooks by late 2025.
Audible's Standard plan is clearly designed as a friendly counter-move for anyone thinking about switching or trying something new.
