CES 2026: .Lumen's AI glasses want to be your guide dog—no paws needed
Romanian startup .lumen is demoing their AI-powered glasses for the visually impaired at CES 2026, earning a spot as an Innovation Awards Honoree.
Priced at €9,999 (about $11,800), these smart specs are being showcased live and had racked up 1,500 pre-orders in just 10 days back in October.
What makes them special?
The glasses use Pedestrian Autonomous Driving (PAD AI) tech—think six cameras, laser projectors, and GPS—to help users safely navigate sidewalks, stairs, puddles, and even snow.
They process info over 100 times per second and have been tested by more than 400 people across 40+ countries.
How do they stack up?
Basically a guide dog in wearable form: .lumen glasses spot overhead obstacles (something white canes miss) and offer voice-guided navigation to places like "home" or "work," with more intuitive destination support (such as guiding you to a specific counter in a coffee shop) planned for future updates.
They last two hours on a charge, weigh about 1.0kg., and feature haptic forehead vibrations plus stereo speakers for offline guidance.
Voice commands are available in English now; Google Maps support is coming soon.
Worth it?
If you want cutting-edge accessibility tech with no waitlists or pet care required—and don't mind the price tag—these could be a real game-changer when they launch in Romania early next year.
