China switches on world's largest offshore solar farm
China has switched on the HG14 project, now officially the largest offshore solar farm anywhere.
Located 8km off Dongying, it's built right in the ocean and became fully connected to the grid at the end of 2025.
It is described as the world's largest open-sea offshore solar plant and the first gigawatt-scale offshore solar plant.
The farm is made up of nearly 3,000 steel platforms
HG14 is made up of nearly 3,000 steel platforms and over two million solar panels—designed to handle wild weather like strong gales and waves.
Its smart engineering saves steel and keeps things sturdy out at sea.
It generates enough clean energy for more than half of Kenli district's needs every year
The farm generates enough clean energy for more than half of Kenli district's needs every year, cutting down huge amounts of coal use and carbon emissions.
With a $1.2 billion investment, China is showing it's serious about renewable energy.
