Coddy developer survey finds 80% developers hooked on AI tools
A new Coddy Developer Survey found that 80% of developers feel hooked on AI coding tools like GitHub Copilot and Claude Code: they're great for speeding up tasks like debugging and code generation, but many say they end up using them compulsively.
Quentin Rousseau calls agentic coding addictive
Quentin Rousseau, chief technology officer and co-founder at Rootly, said, "Agentic coding is addictive. When the agent gets things right, you get a dopamine hit. When it fails, you get an adrenaline rush."
The survey also showed 43% kept working after hours with these tools, 32% stayed up late to keep going, and 39% struggled to switch off.
Meanwhile, trust is dropping: only 29% now believe these tools are accurate (down from 40%), and some worry that overusing AI could hurt their problem-solving skills and create an unhealthy relationship with work.
