Cybersecurity professionals urge US to reverse Anthropic export ban
A group of 76 cybersecurity professionals, including some big names, are asking the US government to reverse its recent export ban on Anthropic's Fable and Mythos AI models.
The ban, announced June 12 over vague national security worries, led Anthropic to cut off global access.
Experts say this move takes away key tools defenders use to spot and fix software bugs, which could actually leave the US more exposed as threats grow.
Alex Stamos, Katie Moussouris question ban
Some well-known voices like former Facebook chief of security Alex Stamos and Katie Moussouris, founder of Luta Security, are questioning why the ban happened in the first place.
After looking at the research behind it, Moussouris said Fable was just doing basic, harmless cybersecurity tasks, not anything risky.
The group is urging the government to make rules that are open, science-based, and truly focused on real safety risks, warning that bans like this might hurt defense more than help security.
