Ex-Google TPU head Amir Salek joins Anthropic compute team
Technology
Anthropic, the team behind Claude AI, just brought on Amir Salek, who used to lead Google's TPU chip program, to join Anthropic's compute team.
In the new role, Salek will report to James Bradbury.
Salek's joining is a big step in Anthropic's push to design its own chips, potentially helping it cope with supply shortages and tailor designs to better meet its needs.
Anthropic inks $250 million Fractile deal
To keep up with growing demand, Anthropic has lined up major deals, including a $250 million starter agreement with UK chip startup Fractile and new partnerships for more data center space.
It's a move similar to what OpenAI is doing with its own custom chips, showing just how important hardware is getting in the AI race.
