Facebook cracks down on link sharing for non-verified creators

Technology

Meta is now testing a rule that limits non-Verified professional accounts and Pages on Facebook to just two external link posts per month.
The move has creators and brands worried, since many rely on frequent links to drive traffic to their sites.

Why is Meta doing this?

Meta says it wants to see if giving Verified users more freedom with links makes the subscription more appealing.
In their words, they're testing a new way to help people discover and engage with content from Verified accounts.
This only impacts professional mode profiles—so regular users aren't affected.

What counts (and what doesn't)?

Links in comments, affiliate links, or anything pointing back to Instagram or WhatsApp are still allowed.
But for creators who count on sharing outside content, this could mean rethinking how they connect with followers—or considering Meta Verified, which starts at $14.99/month.
For context: 98% of US feed views already come from posts without external links anyway.
