Fake cab apps to hike fares? Commuter exposes drivers' trick
Technology
A Bengaluru commuter exposed a sneaky cab scam on Reddit: drivers are using fake apps that look like real ones to hike up fares.
After booking a Rapido from Kempegowda Airport to Jakkur for ₹598, the passenger was shown a "final fare" of ₹758 on what turned out to be a copycat app called TownRide.
When confronted, the driver agreed to accept the actual fare shown on the official Rapido app.

The story quickly picked up steam as more users shared their own run-ins with similar scams—drivers flashing inflated fares on lookalike apps but backing down when challenged.
It's clear that Bengaluru commuters are getting wise to these tricks and aren't afraid to call them out.
