GLP-1 medications may improve male fertility, Chicago study shows
GLP-1 medications, best known for helping with weight loss, could also improve male fertility, according to new research presented in Chicago.
In a 24-week study of obese men aged 18 to 65, those taking GLP-1 medications saw higher testosterone levels, more sperm, and better sperm quality.
GLP-1 may lower inflammation, metabolic stress
Researchers found these medications may lower inflammation and metabolic stress, two things that can get in the way of healthy sperm.
Dr. Pratibha Natesh called this an alternative to testosterone therapy, which can actually reduce sperm production.
Dr. Lidia Minguez Alarcon said the results were promising.
Male infertility affects about 186 million people worldwide, experts say these findings could mean real hope for many couples trying to start a family.
