Your Gmail app now shows photo, attachment previews in notifications
What's the story
Google is giving a major facelift to its Gmail app on Android, by adding photo and attachment previews in notifications. The update comes after the recent addition of a "Mark as read" action. Previously, Gmail notifications only showed the sender's name, subject line, and body text. Now, the tech giant is enhancing them by highlighting and displaying attachments directly within these alerts.
Update
New notification format for emails with attachments
The new Gmail notification format for Android adds a paperclip icon to the subject line of emails that have attachments. It also replaces the sender's image on the right side with a small preview of the attachment. When you expand such notifications, they show a rectangular preview similar to those in messaging apps. However, this does replace the body text of an email, which may not be ideal for work-related communications.
Enhanced functionality
Gmail's new feature for multiple photo attachments
The latest update from Google also lets users see multiple photo attachments in a bottom row. For other file types, like PDFs, Gmail shows a pill with an icon and the beginning of the file name. The compact notification format includes the paperclip emoji to indicate that there are additional files attached to the email.
