Google acquires Mechanize over $1.5 billion, Tamay Besiroglu joins DeepMind
Google has completed its deal with San Francisco-based Mechanize, an AI startup focused on making AIs better at coding, in a deal worth more than $1.5 billion.
Mechanize's co-founder and former CEO Tamay Besiroglu is joining Google DeepMind as a research scientist, and more than a dozen of his former Mechanize employees are also moving to Google.
Many will help with Google's midtraining efforts.
Mechanize raised $9.1 million at $500 million valuation
Mechanize was all about teaching AIs to code smarter, which is huge as tech companies race to build better software using AI tools.
Earlier this year, Mechanize raised $9.1 million at a $500 million valuation, so Google clearly sees big potential here.
This move fits right into Google's ongoing strategy of picking up top AI talent (like last year's Windsurf deal) to stay ahead in the fast-moving world of AI-powered development.
