Google brings easy AI image checks to Gemini app

Technology

Google just dropped a new feature in its Gemini app for Android that lets you quickly check if an image was made or edited with Google's AI.
No need for a browser—now you can verify images straight from your phone, making it simpler to spot what's real and what's not.

How does it spot AI images?

Gemini looks for SynthID, Google's invisible watermark hidden inside images made by their AI models (like Nano Banana Pro).
It also reads C2PA metadata, which basically tracks where an image came from and any edits along the way.

What's next?

Google says this is just the start—they're working on tools to check audio and video too.
They also plan to bring these verification features into Search.
If more platforms use C2PA, you'll be able to verify all kinds of AI content across the web.
