Google Maps just got smarter with Gemini AI
Google Maps has rolled out Gemini AI, making voice commands and navigation way more intuitive.
Now, instead of the old mic icon, you'll spot Gemini's symbol—and it automatically matches your Google account's language and voice settings.
Just say "Hey Google" to find nearby food spots, parking, EV charging stations, or fuel stops while you're on the move.
What else is new?
Gemini can handle follow-up questions for smoother directions and lets you report incidents or get traffic alerts in real time.
Landmark-based navigation is also here—so Maps will guide you using visible markers instead of just distances.
These features are currently US-only but are set to roll out more widely soon. Plus, Lens in Maps now works with Gemini for interactive location searches using your phone camera (Android and iOS users in the US get first dibs).
