Google Maps now comes with Gemini AI for hands-free navigation
Google Maps now comes with Gemini AI, letting you navigate totally hands-free, whether you're driving, walking, or cycling.
Instead of just following the blue line, you get real-time directions that use visible landmarks, such as nearby businesses, to make things clearer.
This update is available worldwide on iOS where Gemini is offered and is rolling out on Android and aims to help over 2 billion users worldwide.
Gemini in Maps offers conversational features
With Gemini built in, you can ask things like check for available EV chargers along your route or quickly share your ETA with friends, all by voice.
Walkers and cyclists get these conversational features where Gemini in Maps is offered. Plus, the new Lens tool helps identify places around you and answers location questions on the spot.
The conversational features began rolling out in the US last November (November 2025).
You'll also get proactive traffic alerts for road closures and handy tips about parking or secret menu items, all available in the app.
