Google rolls out Emergency Location Service for Android users in India

Technology

Google just launched its Emergency Location Service (ELS) on Android phones in India, starting with full integration in Uttar Pradesh's 112 emergency system.
Now, if you call for help, responders can find your location faster—no extra apps or setup needed.

How ELS makes emergencies safer

ELS is built right into Android 6.0+ devices and has already handled over 20 million calls and texts during its pilot in UP.
It uses a mix of GPS, Wi-Fi, and mobile data to pinpoint your spot—even indoors or if your call drops.
Your location goes straight to emergency services (not Google), and the feature only kicks in when you dial 112.

No extra downloads or privacy worries

You don't need to install anything new or buy extra hardware—ELS works automatically and is totally free.
Plus, Google doesn't collect or store any of your personal data during emergencies.
The service has already been tested successfully in more than 60 countries before coming to India.
