Google transforms web searches into dialogues

Technology

Google just rolled out Audio Overviews, a new feature that gives you quick, AI-generated spoken summaries right in your search results. It's perfect for times when you want to listen instead of read, or need a fast breakdown of something complex. For now, it's only in English and available to US users through Search Labs.

How to get started with audio overviews

If you're curious to try it, just opt in on Search Labs. When enabled, you'll see a "Generate Audio Overview" button on certain searches—tap it and get audio right there on the page, with the generation process taking up to 40 seconds. You can speed things up, pause or mute as needed, and check sources if you want more details.

Audio overviews are part of Google Search's generative AI

Audio Overviews are part of Google's push to make search smarter with generative AI—think ChatGPT but built into your usual search flow. It helps you get the gist quickly while still letting you double-check facts from original sites. The feature is free during this experimental phase; no word yet on future pricing.
