Google Weather app for Android may be replaced by Search
What's the story
Google is reportedly planning to replace its Weather "app" for Android, which is an extension of Google Search, with a redesigned Search experience. Unlike Pixel devices that come with a native Pixel Weather, non-Pixel users have been using Google's Weather "app" as an extension of Google Search on their Android phones or tablets.

Google Weather app's features and recent changes
The Google Weather app, which can be added to the home screen as a shortcut, offers a search bar and options to view other saved locations. It displays current weather conditions, hourly forecasts, and a 10-day forecast list. The app also provides detailed information on wind speed, humidity levels, UV index readings, atmospheric pressure data as well as sunrise/sunset timings for each day of the week.
Transition
Shift from traditional app experience to Google search
Google has been gradually moving away from the traditional Weather app experience since mid-October. Several reports have indicated that tapping on the Weather shortcut now opens Google Search results instead of launching the Weather "app." This change was confirmed by one user who saw a message saying: "The weather page has moved: Your home screen shortcut now leads to Google Search."
Platform changes
Google Weather for Wear OS and mobile UI redesign
Google has also removed the Weather app from Wear OS for new users, although those who had already downloaded it can still use it. The company seems to be pushing users toward using the default app that comes with their wearable devices. Meanwhile, the mobile UI of Google Search has also been redesigned to include weather information directly in search results.
